VANCOUVER MOTORCYCLE CLUB – PISTON RUN – (Original Date June 7, 2020)

—Rescheduled due to COVID-19 Restrictions—

Off-road Motorcycle Race event will be held in the Chilliwack River Valley, starting at the Chipmunk Creek staging area. Approximate times are 8:30am to 4pm.  We need minimum 6 operators, more is always better.  Mobile Comm’s Unit will be located OFF-SITE from the staging area.  All other operators will be at check points and key safety zones. Its a great day out in the woods and you meet a lot of new people. If you want to help, just EMAIL us!

APRS Radios preferred if available, as we can locate each station along the course. Alternate APRS frequency TBD.

June 20 & 21 – A.R.R.L. FIELD DAY

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, and the in ability to meet many of these requirements (sharing radios/mics, close proximity at work stations, etc), the Chilliwack Amateur Radio Club will NOT be hosting a Field Day event for 2020.

New Years Dinner

Our Annual New Years Dinner will take place on Saturday January 11, 2020 at the CANTON GARDEN Restaurant in Chilliwack – Banquet room.  Will be a nice evening to gather and socialize.  Let us know if you are coming, and bring your spouse.  We do need know the number of people who will be attending to be sure we have ample seating.   Click HERE for the menu. November 28 – Annual General Meeting

Annual General Meeting will take place at 1930h at the CARC club location. 5725 Tyson Rd.

Come on down to the meeting and share your thoughts, ideas, etc of the past year, and going forward into 2020. We will be holding Elections for all Executive positions. Club Dues to be paid before the start of the meeting if you want Voting Rights. They are payable at any Thursday evening meeting, or Online on the website.

VECTOR Radio – VHF (2m) QSO Party

Want to do some simple contesting on 2m? Make some QSOs with local Hams? Play with a few features on your radio?On November 16th, between 10:00 and 14:00 PST,  VECTOR will be running a QSO party on 2m simplex. The objective is to make as many contacts as you can. The limitation is that the stations must be within the grid CN89, CN99, CN78, which basically covers the lower mainland some of the islands, plus an area south of the 49th.

Their info package linked below includes the potential frequency list, sample QSO, and a log sheet. Bonus points for each municipality contacted.

The Sky’s No Limit – Girls Fly 2

We will be performing Communications at Girls Fly 2 event taking place at the Abbotsford Int’l Airport (YXX). This is a very fun event with lots to see, while also gaining some great radio experience. We need volunteers for both dates 08:00 to 17:30. Last year went really well. We provide foot patrols of the event area, assist with coordinating staging area with landing zone and assisted loading and unloading Helicopters. REVEL Marathon – Chilliwack River Valley

We will be performing communications duties for the REVEL Marathon on Saturday Aug 17 . This will be a half-day event, but will be a very early morning start time. Numerous volunteers needed, so if you are interested in helping out, please let us know. http://www.chwkarc.ca/contact-us/

We need to cover comms for the entire race course that goes from Chilliwack Lake down to GW Graham School in Vedder. Portable Stations recommended, or ability to work out of parked Mobile Station preferred.

June 21 & 22, 2018 – FIELD DAY!!!!!                                                                        Saturday 9am set up and go for 24 hours!!  Same location and times as previous years,  at the Atchelitz Thresherman’s Association grounds beside Chilliwack Heritage Park.  Come on down and operate a radio, try out some new gear or set-up your portable station and participate.

July 20+21, 2018 – Cascadia Expodition                                                               Chilliwack Heritage park, just off Lickman Rd.  This is all about 4×4’s and off-road adventuring.  We will be there to encourage all to get on the amateur radio band Wagon.  For information click HERE

June 10, 2018 – Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club -Piston Run    Chilliwack River Valley, Chipmunk Creek Staging Area.  Providing a communications safety net along the course.  8am to 3:30pm .  Volunteers are needed.  A great day up in the hills!

February 8 , 2018 @ 7pm                                                                                       Homebrew VHF antenna class for Beginners.                                                   Instruction on and build a ladder line antenna for VHF for you to take home.   You will need to bring your own solder and soldering gun no smaller than 100watt.                                          Cost is $15 per class/antenna.                                                                                      Pay in advance at Thursday night club night.

January 18 + 25 , 2018 @7pm

Coax and Connector Class for Beginners.    Instruction on how to properly terminate a PL259 and BNC to coax.  You will make a short jumper as a project to keep.   You will need to bring your own solder, soldering gun or iron, no smaller than 100watt.  You must register , only room for 10 people.  Cost is $10 pay in advance at Thursday night Club night.

June 24-25 ,2017

FIELD DAY! – Located at Atchelitz Threshermen’s grounds @ 44146 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4A7 .  Between the Info center and Heritage park.   We will arrive around 9am Saturday and depart Sunday at noon.  We will have the comm’s trailer on site.  Some will be staying the night. There is no plans for a potluck diner, but please bring your own food, come and socialize and operate radio’s!  We will have a BBQ of sorts on site if you wish to cook something up!  Hope to see you there!

First Aid Course – This is offered to members that are active in the club and at events.  This is a close class to preregistered members only.  Fire Hall 1 at 08:00hr to 16:30hrs.  Be a few minutes early please

THE SKY’S NO LIMIT – GIRLS FLY TOO!  Abbotsford Airport.  All about getting Ladies of all ages into aviation.  Communications is required for various points of the venue.  9-5:30pm both days.  If you want to help please contact us.

Everyone attending the Girls Fly 2 Event at Abbotsford Airport this weekend, please be there at 7:30am on Saturday and 8:45 Sunday. Clearbrook Rd exit, head south to King rd. Head West on King rd to the very end. Call in Frequencys Primary 443.00mhz simplex, secondary 146.490mhz simplex. Communications trailer VE7AFA Mobile will also be monitoring 147.100+ VE7RCK. Bring proper attire to be out in the elements.
